Greece and its customs

Mealtimes
Breakfast is not that important, often coffee with something light.  Lunch is around 14:00 hours and is an important meal. This can be a wonderful time if you go for a day out to enjoy a long, lazy lunch. Mezes are the Greek version of tapas. Dinner is often extensive and is around 21:00 hours. Then the tavernas start to fill up.

Siesta / Messimeri
The Greeks take a siesta between 14:00 and 17:00 hours. Many shops close and it is quite quiet on the street. The Greek siesta is called “messimeri”. It is not polite to disturb anyone around this time. Being noisy on the street or in the garden is not appreciated.
